Shan Shui Process

During a three-month apprenticeship at a traditional lacquerware studio in Wuhan, Hubei, I immersed myself in the ancient Chinese art of lacquer. This experience involved mastering the slow, meticulous, and ritualistic techniques of a craft considered an intangible cultural heritage. My work bridges the gap between tradition and modernity by integrating ancient lacquer processes with contemporary 2D digital illustration. This fusion is exemplified in my piece, "Shanshui" (Mountain and Water), where I use traditional materials like eggshell, mother-of-pearl, and gold foil to create an abstract landscape, reinterpreting oriental aesthetics in a modern context.
